I've made all kinds of warbands and wanted to make an orc based one.  Well I don't have any from the past sets that were updated so all I've got is a bunch of orc raiders...and they suck.

How come for 8 pts they have a lousy +6 to hit and only 15 ac 13 def?

The goblin runner for half the points has 2 more ac and def and is a point faster!Â
Imagine 4 Orc Raiders (32 pts) vs 10 farmers (30 pts).  This is the only scenerio where they might stand a chance.  But there is still a good chance the farmers could win!
I like their special ability for the opportunity att  if someone misses with a Melee att but with their crappy +6 to hit, it seems useless.
Even teaming them up with the rage drake isn't good.  It's better to have the rage drake unmounted instead of wasting the 8 pts to have a orc bum on the team.
Is their any piece (besides the EB, which would seem a waste to use the +2 +10 on these guys)  that could better their chance to hit besides rendering something helpless?  Does anyone know of a piece maybe coming in the future to help out the orcs?  Or mabey wizards should redo their stats like they did to the pyromancer except increase the stats.Â

Goblins are more usefull. GOBLINS!!!Â

Any input? Thoughts, Insight?  Anything?  *sigh*

not all figures can be good...blah blah blah... RPGers need minis... Blah blah blah...

With the conversion to 2.0 and an ever shifting design team (hopefully this group will buck that trend) a lot of minis are coming off the line with problems.

Rock Bottom Pricing:
Arcane Archer 30, Centaur Hero 67, Human Cleric of Bane 25, Gold Champion 34, Death Knight 52, Goblin Blackblade 9, Silentwolf Goblin 7, Orc Raider 10, Dwarf axefighter 9, Healer 9, Thaskor 65, Aspect of Demogorgon 71, Ogre 9, Fire Giant 79, Human Wanderer 7, Drunken Master 18, Barghest 12, Longstider Barbarian 27, Longtooth Barbarian 22, Frost Giant 76, Ravenous Vampire 42, Large Earth Elemental: priceless

Actually, I thought the new 2.0 Design scheme was to stop making pieces that inherently sucked. You know what I mean....most commons in the game can find some use in a warband now, but in 1.0 sets we'd get sooooo many pieces that you'd look at once and know you'd never, ever see it in play.

As for the Orc Raider....give it some time. I think they're not god awful....35 hp for 8 points means your opponent will have to spend more than one attack typically to get him off the board. And while I'd take a Merchant Guard any day of the week over an Orc Raider....I think we'll see him return some day. We're already starting to get Orc Champions that give bonuses to Orcs or have Champion Powers that are Orc-Centric...a strong Orc Champ and a cheapo Orc who gets free attacks against enemies who miss might not seem so terrible.

The bad news: Goblins still win. The Hobgoblin Marshall from Night Below boosts GOblin SPeed and Goblin Attack bonuses. :sigh:

i don't think it's bad new that goblins win for now. I kinda like the idea of the fast little guys ripping big dumb orcs to shreds.

What's the matter boy, don't cha like clowns? Don't we make you laugh?

They gotta make an Orc that offers bonuses to Raiders or Orcs in general like the Hobgoblin Marshal does for goblins...

Too bad Obuld doesn't give attack bonus for orcs. Orc sergeant or some other piece will be a must for orc bands in future. Anything increasing AC or giving conceal to raiders wold be great for it's specialty too.

It really sucks to have pieces that suck in 2.0 too, I agree with you OhGodtheRats (Great user name, btw :D )

I'll say he's not great to a group that plays EB/SkullCleave/TBA warbands fanatically, but I don't know...locally he was pretty fun last weekend. I'm doing this thing where I play through the All-Stars that I have and putting him on top of a Rage Drake was pretty phenomenal. Part of that was Obould being able to pull the Delver Sergeant activate 3 (if you hit) trick in Borderlands, but the other part really was the Rage Drake.
I know he's old hat, but I think a number of the early 2.0 piece might need to be looked at again. The Rage Drake's ability to Double Move 16 Squares and then Charge another 8 means that he's got a threat range of 24 squares. Which is, well, pretty good. Even better, Obould is the 1st 2.0 DDM Orc that's worth putting on top of him. Weirdly enough, his stats are pretty similar to the Rage Drake (since he costs the same amount of points) and their abilities compliment each other. Of course, since his speed is ALSO the same as the Rage Drake, the only reason you'd want to have him on the Drake would be to benefit from the +10 Damage When Bloodied & the whole Double Move + Charge thing. In one of the games I played, I was able to base the enemy Wulfgar on Turn 1 when he wasn't prepared for it. And, as he wore down the Drake/Obould's hit points, they both started doing more damage and, using Obould champ ability, got to get the jump on the big threats.

So yeah, I think he has a place in the right warband/hands, but that can be said with almost any piece. I will agree with you though. He's not Great. But he's pretty damn good.

you all have good points but what you fail to ralize is what fig will miss a orc raider? not many i love my orcs but i am pissed that they haven't put out an orc that was mid to high cost since they went to 2.0 i love obould but i think his ac and def should have been better he is thee same cost as the death kngiht yet he is not even close to him stat wise and yes i think they should have givven him a champion effect that gave a bonus to hit for orcs

Well before you write us all off, keep in mind the benefit of the Orc Raider's ability is NOT to attack people who attack him but to attack people who fail to hit his invariably bigger and better armored friends. The ability is whenever a bloodied enemy misses an attack, not when a bloodied enemy misses the Orc Raider. He still sucks but in a little way that's his strength. Because when you attack the dangerous piece, they have a chance to hit you if they're still around. Which is kind of likely, because you're attacking the dangerous piece which is NOT the Orc Raider.

I guess that orcs and all the evil attackers actually can´t be complemented by a champion or miniature with special powers.

Is the same for Hal Elf and Tiflings and Halflings and Gnomes. I really expect that further champions benefit all this miniatures.

And... all the evil beasts and elementals can´t received additional bonuses just like wilderness non evil beasts and elementals miniatures. God bless Hierophant!!!
