There's the D&D "World of Warcraft" The Roleplaying game. Magic & Mayhem Aliences & Horde Compendium Manuel of Monsters.
I think there's a couple more of them. These are the only 4 I bought. | | 183 Completed trades with the best people on the net!

| | They're not to bad, but some of the stuff in them I don't like. The advantage is in a home brew game, I can throw monsters at them that they have never seen.[}:)] | | 183 Completed trades with the best people on the net! | |

| I also got it, but at a very discounted price or else I would not have [)]. All in all it is not a bad book, but I don't see myself playing it. There are just to many games out there right now, and I don't have time for it.
Before I would even consider running a game of Warcraft I would need to run... a 2nd game of Legend of the Five Rings, Hackmaster, Everquest (rpg), The Wheel of Time, Star Wars (New jedi Order), then maybe Warcraft. As you can tell I have quite a few things lined up so it will gather more dust or be sold it seems. | | "...don’t try to outweird me, I get stranger things than you free with my breakfast cereal." - Zaphod Beeblebrox Champion of the Nymph!

Well... yes... they are a company. However that's too easy of a reply. The "because its a hellaliciously cool world" is better since it takes into account demand. I mean, you can /supply/ anything (heck, I saw people auctioning dog poo (not fake stuff, the real thing)), but people need to demand it as well.
Thus, it was made because people thought they had made a great world with memorable elements and wanted to game in it.

| Yes, but did they in fact demand it?
Or was it a case of just releasing the RPG only to capitalize on the current popularity of the video game? Were fans screaming for a paper and pencil version to be released? I don't know the answer to that. maybe some savvy WoWC fan can answer that for me.
Again, my cynical nature makes me lean toward "quick cash payout." I also wonder about WoTC's motivations about releasing a book like the DMG 2 but that's another argument. | | WotC - making me wish more and more every day for a return to the TSR days. :( I fought the snark and the snark won. Either:
a) there was demand
or
b) the company is run by fools
They usually do market research to determine if there is demand before releasing a product.
You say "quick cash payout" but clearly that's not true if there is no demand. Therefore, even if they want nothing but a "Quick cash payout" like you say, you can /only/ get a said payoff if demand exists. (otherwise you get "big money hole")
The same is true of the DMG 2. WotC believes there is a demand, otherwise they wouldn't release it (or alternatively, they are not being run well, however given that WotC is doing quite well [by my understanding] I think that their marketing team is doing just jim dandy.) Of course there are always bound to be occasional screw ups, but they really do try to make sure there is a demand before they sink tons of money into writing/illustrating/editing/printing these things.

| Well I "demanded [)]" Everquest the RPG... Why? Well I love the world, and history the same reason as I buy Forgotten realm books.
I love Neverwinter Nights does that mean I would not enjoy playing the Realms? No Pen & paper games give you more free will. | | "...don’t try to outweird me, I get stranger things than you free with my breakfast cereal." - Zaphod Beeblebrox Champion of the Nymph!

What questions? They're a company, they're in business to make money. They're releasing the book to make money. But as I'm claiming, they're only going to put it out if they think it's going to sell.
I'm really confused about your argument here.
Let's be clear:
(a) all other things aside, businesses exist /only/ to make money if they are a for-profit enterprise
(b) there are different means to this profit goal that include both ethical and unethical means. Ethical means includes Hasbro's promise to not use child labor and to start philanthropic organizations, unethical means include Enron robbing fixed income old people and stealing their own employees 401k.
(a) [again] irregardless of means, all businesses exist to make money
(c) businesses (such as wotc) that supply a product, can only make money if there is a demand for said product.
(d) in accordance with (a), businesses will only try and supply a product if there is an actual demand
Businesses that fail to do this tend to loose money and either change leadership/ownership or go out of business entirely.

I agree. I have way to many games to play rather than continuing with this on. And I did get one heck of a discount for them, so I figured why not.[)] | | 183 Completed trades with the best people on the net!

Thats okay, it seems I am the only one who LIKES the World of Warcraft RPG (even though I have not played it). I love the world, the background and the twist on races. I think it would make a great "Living" campaign. Or I should say 2 campaigns. One for Horde characters and one for Alliance characters. There could be lots of room for crossover, some in which the characters in the two campaigns are cooperating with each other (such as against the Scourge or the Burning Legions) and others where they compete against each other.
I got the Everquest Player Guide, but never got into it. Too many unneccesary rule changes and the setting just did not inspire me.

Don't get me wrong. I like the game. Especially the unit combat rules. I've only played a few times, but it just seems to lack something. I'm not sure what it is. May be the way the DM is running it. I'm not sure. I'm not disappointed in the contents of the books, Just the way the games seem to go. | | 183 Completed trades with the best people on the net!
