| Obama v McCain debate: the moderator won. The American people lost. Love Obama's plan for invading nuke-toting Pakistan. Even better that his invasion plans revolve around the Kashmir and Jammul region (right on the border with both India and China) that is a contested zone between all three countries. Nothing like pissing off three nuke-toting countries all at once.
Basically, neither candidate looked that good. A lot of name calling and smirking on both sides of the aisle. McCain was strong on the economy and wimpy on foreign policy. Obama was wimpy on the economy and sounded like a hawk on foreign policy. It was like listening to the Bizzaro- versions of them since those are exactly the opposite stances they normally take.
The highlight of the debate was definitely when the moderator repeatedly made comments to the effect of "that was nice, but could you answer my question" and "apparently neither of you understand my question so I will try to reword it so you can understand it."
The Palin/Biden debate ought to be equally useless. It should prove to be another pile of fluffy BS with both sides avoiding actually saying anything productive about the actual issues. I'd love to be surprised. | |

I think that most of the public already has Biden winning this, with the only question being by how much. I think the Republicans will ask Palin to keep things really general so that she doesn't get herself into hot water. I think the Democrats will ask Biden to not make waves, and to try to not stomp her too badly (so he doesn't end up looking like a meany).
Basically, what you said. A lot of skirting the real issues, lots of talking, and not a lot being said. Hope I'm wrong.

Amazed that Obama sounded so hawk-like, and McCain sounded so soft.
IMHO, McCain won only because he didn't completely screw up the good thing he had going for him, i.e Obama has been all for peace and diplomacy, and totally 180'd that. McCain just didn't make a bad impression.

Most of the public doesn't care (as evidenced by the extremely low viewer volume for the Obama/McCain debate).
I can't see anyone having "won" prior to the event. Particularly since in order to win a debate you actually have to debate rather than skirting issues and name calling.
The irony is that the debates are theoretically designed to influence swing voters/undecided. Frankly, I doubt that those are the people who are watching the debates. This election is another in an increasing series of "crap is that all we have to choose from" candidate pools.

Actually, from a Country-level-perspective, you typically have to spend your way out of a recession or depression. Problem is, it's a short-term fix, which is all Politicians are interested in, especially presidents, because they only need to get re-elected once.
That's why Reagan was so great. Long-term economic policies for the first and so far last time ever. Most of the 90's was his policies spaying off. Great President.
