I do particularly like either candidate. I like Obama bettter for the change favtor, but I would have to go with McCain only for the experience factor even though he'll just be another "W" / same old thinkg in the White House.Â

| McCain.
Obama has good intntions, but his plans won't work, and he'll spend too much of his prsidency butting heads with people.
But it'll depend on the VP candidate. That will show what kind of presidential legacy he wants to leave.

I hope Obama though, but he has to stay sensible, and not let things get to his head. McCain seems the more stable and safe choice, but I think the world can do with some change.

But, let's face it, both were the best that their respective parties had to offer. One's a war hero, and the other's a self-made Harvard guy.
One thing I have noticed from watching a lot of US news is that Obama really strikes me as a guy who looks like a president. McCain doesn't quite seem to have the same aura about him. | | Over 270 successful online DDM trades. | |

| Obama should have gone with Hilary but I have a sneaking suspicion Hilary wanted no part of that. Biden has a lot of skeletons in his closet and despite serving on both the foreign relations and judiciary committees in Congress lacks specific experience in the economic arena. Still, Biden was a solid choice compared to most of the other options (although I would have liked to see Lieberman as well). Obama just doesn't offer much by himself and Biden is lacking spice.
McCain should have gone with Romney. Romney would be lambasted for being Mormon (odd that Harry Reid never gets slammed for his LDS affiliation) but he's got some sold economic development experience (2002 Olympics, Gubernatorial, etc). Plus he doesn't seem to have many skeletons lurking. Palin is an interesting choice for several reasons. She's both a deliberate attempt to target the very upset conservative faction of the GOP which aren't thrilled with McCain and she's a deliberate attempt to ramp up appeal to women voters. Palin is a mediocre choice for a couple of reasons. First, one of the primary critiques against Obama is lack of experience and while Palin has an impressive resume it isn't very long (so, mixed bag on experience). She's also probably too conservative to appeal to the "moderate" voting block. Finally, McCain is archaic and one solid stroke or heart attack away from Palin becoming president which may or may not improve her standing (some people will fear her as president, others will be pleased).
So, the VP race on both sides seems to be a miss. Obama really needed Hilary (who frankly snubbed him in her DNC speech although she set herself up for 2012 nicely) but went with Biden. McCain needed Romney but went with Palin.
Have to see if the GOP has anything to say during their convention. Odds are against it, but it would be a nice surprise. The DNC didn't really offer much more than the moldy "hope and change" without any substance line which has been thrown around for months.
I guess it would be too much to ask for either side to serve up a specific gameplan for economic/energy/foreign policy change over the next 4 years (Obama's 10-year plan was empty rhetoric since the max presidential term is 8 years). I'd love to see a 2 year, 5 year, and 8-10 year plan but I'm probably being far too optimistic when it comes to politicians. | | Knight Warlord a.k.a. Commander (#32) in only 6 months. | I don't know who McCain's other final choices were, but she came out of left field. I think he was worried about Romney being a Mormon, but one thing about Romney is that he looks like a President - if something were to happen to McCain. Basing a vote on looks is superficial, but it works for a lot of people; many believe that the dog picture of Kerry caused him to lose. I think Palin could pay some dividends, moreso by being a woman than by being a conservative. The backlash of disgruntled Hilary supporters, paired with the fact that Palin is a heart-attack or stroke away from being President could work in McCain's favour.
Biden complements Obama in many ways, but I agree that with Hilary, he is an auto-win. Even though they became bitter rivals in the end, who did not see eye-to-eye, Hilary could have given Obama so many votes that the dream-team would have land-slided McCain.

| I was gonna go with Barry H Obama until he picked Biden as his VP. I just dislike that guy, maybe cause of the plaigarism.
And he looks like an albino.
McCain is from my state (AZ) and I like his views on immigration (very big here). However, some of his outbursts on the senate floor demonstrate behavior NOT fitting the guy who's gonna be in charge of the Big Red Button.Â
Then, of course, he picks the MILF from Alaska, Sarah Palin. Man, is she hot! No practical experience to speak of, but Nummy num num nums!
At this point, I am seriously thinking about returning the being one of the 3%ers from 4 years ago, when I voted for Ralph Nader.
