| I like to cash checks in the form of Rolls of Nickels.
I use approximate change it it's fast and convenient (for instance, when I go to McD's, my food is 4.23. I'll use a quarter if I have one handy, otherwise, meh.)
My bank has a coin counter for free, too.

| Are we talking traffic or stores here? I have fast-pass type auto-pay thing-a-ma-jig in my car, so I'm the quickest there is in traffic. In a store, I never carry change, so it isn't an issue, but I wouldn't feel guilty piling a load of loose change while everybody had to wait.Â
After all, they're the same SOBs that cut me off in traffic on the way to the store, rode the passing lane for an extra half mile in a traffic jam only to force themselves in at the last second while I waited patiently like a good person, spilled their beer on my kid at a ballgame jumping for a foul ball easily four feet over their head (and this from a fat dude with a 2" vertical leap), banged the back of my seat all through the movie, knocked over my mailbox, let their dog crap on my lawn for the 80 billionth time, dinged the side of my car in the parking lot.Â
Yea, they can just wait while I search through the pennies in the bottom of the wife's pocket book to make sure I'm not accidentally paying with a wheatie.

Seriously everyone. If you want a sure fire way to put money into savings, take all that change and deposit it into your savings account. Don't hold the line up while you fish for 63 cents EXACTLY!
We seem to hear a lot about how people aren't saving like they used to and when retirement approaches, folks don't have adequate savings. Here is one way you can start. | |

It's just simple common courtesy. We all have places we need or want to be and none of us need to be held up or slowed down because someone has to pay $2.63 exactly. Just whip out three bucks and be done with it. Then, take the change you got back, toss it in a piggy bank for future deposit in your savings, or for your next DDM purchase, or your child's bank account, or whatever.
See how easy and quick that is?

The bigger problem is people who write checks. Who the hell brings check books to stores any more? Anyone ever heard of a debit card? I cringe whenever I see someone whip one of those out, *especially* in a freakin' "express" checkout lane (yes, there are stores with "express" lanes that accept checks). | |

As for exact change, even better is what I often end up doing. Say the bill come to $11.56. Do I want all that change coming back...nope, but I also probably don't have the exact 0.56 either, but odds are I have 0.06 in that pocket. So give the Clerk $22.06...ouch watch those brain molecules melt in front of your eyes until they punch the "amount tendered" into the register and see all they have to give me $10.50 as change. One bill and 2 quarters....nice and clean in my pocket. No new pennies and nickels to haunt the change bucket.... | |
