WBC 16 Update.    Both reward figures should be completed in the next round or two.  The guest artist is still doing an Oni, but I think I may switch mine to one of the new ATG figs since some of the huges can look really cool with an actual good paint job.   Delays should go away at this point as my home internet is now in place after moving two weeks back.   Cable company had to run new lines so I only had net access at work.

Standings after round 2:

Round 3 will be played on the Caves of Chaos map.  The Caves are a cluttered map with a few choke points and interesting bits of terrain that reward a savvy player.  Let's see how it does when it comes down to raw warband power!

Table 4: 14
Table 5: 3
Table 6: 12
Table 7: 9
Table 8: 16

Comments
Table 1: The map provides excellent cover and walls for Player 11. The advantages are sufficient to tip the scale in 11's favor.
Table 2: This is a really weird near-mirror match. I think that the Dragon's advantages over the mages is enough to win.
Table 3: The Wilds band doesn't have enough meat. Thrall will fall and without strong melee support, the wizards die quickly.
Table 4: The Ice Archon has better support than the Lamia does. It's close, but the two Driders really help.
Table 5: Too much theme for Player 6, not enough power.
Table 6: This is a closeone, but the ability of Player 12 to do more from a distance tips the match.
Table 7: If the Rot Scarab Swarms get particularly well played, this could go the other way.
Table 8: The Skeletal Tomb Guardian's starting position can render it too easily victimized on this map.

Real quick, since I've got to run for a couple of days:

Match 1: Player 15
Match 2: Player 1
Match 3: Player 13
Match 4: Player 14
Match 5: Player 3

I'll edit/explain when I get back, just because I might want a closer look. But I did want to get a vote in just in case.

15- go team odd!
1- I really like the ranged power of this band.
13- wild mage and warwizard should take down the battle ragers before melee begins. either that or they'll be bloodied and more potent. The rest of 13's band should be able to take down the battle ragers.
4- the driders have to choose between the swarm and the lamia. If they go swarm the lamia and thrall take the ice archon easily. If they go Lamia the ice archon is auto stunned for 2 rounds. Thall gets a lot of hp from all the fodder running about.
3- the white dragon just doesn't contribute enough and there is plenty of area fx to deal with the swarms
10- wins on the strength of the dwarves.
9- go team odd!
8- skeletal tomb gaurdian for the win.

Rock Bottom Pricing:
Arcane Archer 30, Centaur Hero 67, Human Cleric of Bane 25, Gold Champion 34, Death Knight 52, Goblin Blackblade 9, Silentwolf Goblin 7, Orc Raider 10, Dwarf axefighter 9, Healer 9, Thaskor 65, Aspect of Demogorgon 71, Ogre 9, Fire Giant 79, Human Wanderer 7, Drunken Master 18, Barghest 12, Longstider Barbarian 27, Longtooth Barbarian 22, Frost Giant 76, Ravenous Vampire 42, Large Earth Elemental: priceless

Match 1: Player 11- The sheer amount of pow in this Underdark band wins this round.
Match 2: Player 2- Holy quasi-mirror-match. The Underdark just barely ekes ahead on this one, with much of each warband cancelling each other out.
Match 3: Player 7- Those Battleragers with the Wild Mage should be able to dice up the opponent's mages while the Stalker keeps the Thrall from doing much to help.
Match 4: Player 4- The Lamia combines with the Cultist makes for a potent combo against 14. The Scarab Swarm certainly doesn't hurt matters at all.
Match 5: Player 3- Conceal makes all the difference in this match.
Match 6: Player 12- This is one of those very close matches... but I think 12 comes out on top due to superior early hits.
Match 7: Player 9- Team Odd wipes the floor with the opponent's warband. Skish.
Match 8: Player 8- The Underdark just does too much damage and too quickly for the Wilds to keep up.

Idaho. Yes, we have Gamers in Idaho.

07/16/2008 11:48 AM
Match 1: Player 11 I think the power of 11 wins out
Match 2: Player 2 Mirror mirror on the wall... still, I think 2 has the adv.
Match 3: Player 7 I think the ragers do well in close
Match 4: Player 14 Lamia isn't as effective here.
Match 5: Player 3 Mobility of the Shadow Dragon is the difference
Match 6: Player 10 Man, 10's been in a lot of close matchups. Every time i look, it's always tough with this one. I think the Dwarf warlord gives a very slight edge.
Match 7: Player 9 Activation and power should be enough
Match 8: Player 8

Give it a little time. It's summer, people have other things to do. We'll get a note at some point from bshugg about the deadline, but, I'd wager he'll let it go a little while, to let some more votes trickle in.

My Votes:

Match 6:

Both bands have a good solid ranged content. Enough that any fodder that shows its face should get cleared out. In my opinion the Astral stalker will be the most pivotal figure slowing down opposing hitters and band 12 has more offense. Close but Band 12 wins.

Match 8:

Band 16 packs an interesting mix of hitters and ranged.Band 8 is a bit top heavy with the skeleton Tomb Guardian leading the way. Early on I think 16 will get an advantage, but the Guardian will be able to Cascade of steel multiple times doing sick things. Band 8 wins.

Ok, I will vote on all despite it not mattering.

Table 1:

Band 11 is pretty wicked up close, but 15 is no slouch in melee. Especially if it can power up its Thrall.ÂSince 15 has vastly superior ranged it has inevitability over 11.ÂI don’t like Quori but its ok I guess.ÂI think 15 would win in a close one.

Table 2.

Similar bands but band 2 just has more efficient pieces.ÂAs long as it makes an effort to control the wild mage it should win.

Table 3.

Band 13 is a bit chaotic but features some great pieces. ÂBand 7 is solid offense despite running quirky figs like the battleragers. ÂThe ragers can do ok against lower AC’s which band 13 happens to have. ÂPlayer 7 wins.

Table 4.

Lamia and Thrall versusÂIce archon and astral stalker. ÂThis one comes down to the bigger hitters slugging it out and band 4 has a wild card in the form of the Rot Scarab.ÂBand 4 wins.

Table 5.

Band 3 is similar to what I would of built for this event from the list. ÂBand 6 has some neat tricks but the rot scarabs don’t do well against radius effects, which Band 3 unfortuantly has 3 solid ones of.ÂBand 3 wins.

Table 6.

Already voted

Table 7.

This one would be close.ÂI like all the figs in both bands and think they match up very well.ÂWith equal players piloting them on Caves, I think band 9 can force bad trades from the lower activation band 5. ÂPlayer 9 wins.

Table 8.

Already voted.
