Looking at your suggested builds and the builds that I've also been tinkering, it almost seems like Death Knell singlehandedly made Snig the popular commander of choice. Before Death Knell, we never thought of a competitive warband that only has Snig as a commander. But with the arrival of more powerful undead (no morale check) and high level pieces (high saves), Snig as a sole commander doesn't seem so bad anymore. He seems to be a necessity now as we are forced to add more activations that got eaten up by expensive pieces. Anyway, just an observation...

Here is a band with 2 large blues as a core. LBD x2 136pts Snig 20pts goblin skirmisher x3 0pts goblin skirmisher x6 18pts Destrachan 26pts It won't due very well, but is exceptional at clearing fodder.

I'm using a similar build like that, but no destrachan. The presence of two LBDs are good enough filler killer. You might instead want to fit in a Skullcrusher Ogre in there. You lose some activations, but at least you get a decent beatstick to support your LBDs.
