Just taken from the link below:

At the ACD Open House, WotC just announced that sometime in 2009 they will release non-randomized D&D minis. No details yet as they are working out what they want to do.

How do you think this will be?

Icons Called Shot: Tarrasque
Vindicated Dungeon of Dread Called Shot: Mind Flayer

Against the Giants Called Shot: Uncommon Fire Giant
Demonweb Called Shot: Myrlochar

They have released some non-randomized minis before. They were in Basic Game, 2nd Basic Game, Icon Packs, and the recent Starter Set. They could mean something like this. There is a chance they would be doing in on a larger scale, since they weren't very specific. Looks like we'll have to wait and see.

This was discussed at hordelings, the guy that was told about this said it was something "new" and the guys on hordelings say that he is knowledgeable enough of ddm that he would know what he was talking about. So, expect something new and non-randomized.

Greyhaze's DDM Spoilers
Champion of a Medium Dog & then a Darkenbeast , Raistlin Majere, Nightmare WDQ25/60, Warduke WD60/60,
Anti-Champion of Guns, "Knight of Bugbears", and Joke Champion of Venger.
Called Shots: Frost Giant in Dangerous Delves.

Scenario packs (without an icon in there to drive up the price) would be great.

What if it's a scenario pack that has several figs you really like that aren't available in boosters? ie a bunch of decent-looking barbarian fighters battling a remorhaz?

I have a feeling that that's what it's going to be.  Orc, goblin, low level undead packs would have the most general use for RPG people.  And, of course, the most basic types of humanoids.

I do too, I'm just wishfully thinking that it might be something 'll want to buy. I haven't been getting very many minis the past few sets and I want to buy some.

Hi Everyone,

I would have no problem with this if the sets contained new sculpts, repaints or commons. A module that included all the encounters in it would be a great idea.

Why buy a pack of goblins for a set price when you can go on ebay and buy 3 for like 80 cents it doesn't make sense. As for the barbarian fighters battling a remorhaz that would be cool. :)

"The minis will be the prepaints, will include boxed sets (like a bunch of orcs) and will make some single PCs available as well. At least that is the current plan. THIS IS NOT A PROMISE. THIS IS A DIRECTIONAL PLAN, still in the early development stages. They also said they are targeting the minis for somewhere during the first 6 months of 2009."

What concerns me is that they may be prepaints... why would I want to buy unpainted minis?

I would be completely disinterested in non-painted minis. That was the entire point of buying DDM in the first place, instead of Reaper metal minis. Non-painted minis would be a very backward step, since we can see that Reaper has responded to demand of prepainted minis by introducing their own.

There's still quite a few people out there who don't buy anything on ebay or online for that matter.  Some people just want to go to a store and look at and hold something first before they buy it.

I'm not interested in non-painted minis. The whole point of DDM was that they were plastic... and painted.
After 3000+ minis, I'm not interested in a bunch of skeletons or goblins. Though it may be good for 4E newbies, that's probably the people these packs will target.
Packs like the starter pack are OK, but I don't need to buy more than one.
However the idea of an adventure/minis_used_in_it pack would be great.

I think most likley will be similar to reaper packages and bee those types. Which teh savvy will buy as commons/uncommons via singles cheaper.

Still its what people are asking for, apperntly.

"The minis will be the prepaints,

The prefix "pre" means before or done earlier. Pre-painted minis are what we already have for DDM, they've been painted for us earlier. Not sure where the panic about non-painted minis came from. :p

When I first started looking for minis for RPG, I didn't think to look on eBay and shelled out $1+ for each common and $1.50+ for each uncommon at the FLGS. Even now I don't like buying onesies and twosies on eBay because shipping can be as high as, or higher than, the mini(s), and buying a lot doesn't always get you what you were really looking for. I think that the set ideas will be great among the RPG side and iffy among the DDMers. If they're smart, they'll be different sculpts for those of us who have this burning desire to collect them all.

More minis are always good. If they released a goblin pack, I'd by one for the integration into the goblin army that I have
If they released a 20 pc character set (ie fighters, wizards, rogues).. I'd buy one and add to the character collection.
Actually, the more I think about it... I'll likely buy whatever they make. I can't see myself buying multiples of a set, but I'll be good for at least one.
Now, a townspeople set would get me to by multiples. A castle/dungeon decorating set would get multiples as well.

A module with all the encounters sounds good but if they just re-released a bunch of other minis I probably wouldn't be too interested unless they were at least repaints.

Ditto.  Especially the townspeople.  Tinkers, constables, seamstresses, merchants, barmaids, etc.  Bring 'em on.  There's only so much I can do with a Sage, a couple of Tavern Brawlers, and a Farmer holdin' a pig.

The farmer holding a pig was a bit of a disappointment, though it is funny. Why did the farmer have to have a big head again, like the original commoner? The pig part makes him too unique.

It sounds like more than a few of us would find common townsfolk to be useful.  Of course, there are others who do not feel the same way.  Perhaps, WotC could make a relatively small run to test the market.  I think it would still be most cost-effective for them to include townsfolk in their randomized boosters; maybe at a nominal rate of just one or two per set.

*edit- I mean if the WOTC non-randomized minis are prepainted; the minis shown below come unpainted.

What I think would be really awesome would be to have mini-packs based on the modules made so far and upcoming, so for example: a Keep on the Shadowfell pack, which would contain minis used for that adventure, like some of the generics they already have, but a few special scuplts made just for it. Same with the Scepter Tower of Spellgard module, have a pack with all the minis used for that.
