This week -- two more miniatures from the Demonweb. Iron Dragon Prowler When you think of iconic monsters in Dungeons & Dragons,
it is only natural for dragons to come to mind. This year we focused on
the chromatic dragons, such as the blue and the black dragon. The
metallic dragons will have full attention next year, and the first
thing that fans of previous editions will notice is the dragons based
on alloys have been replaced with pure metals. In Against the Giants,
you were able to get your hands on one of the two new metallics, the
Adamantine Dragon. This week, we preview the other new metallic dragon. The Iron Dragon Prowler is one of seven creatures in the set with the Dragon keyword and one of three true dragons in Demonweb.
To make him stand out from other silvery metallic dragons, his wings
have been darkened and slightly rusted. The miniature is fantastic --
individual scales have been sculpted, and a dark wash really brings out
the recesses of the figure. Deathcap This
figure marks a departure from previous creatures. Most of the
miniatures have represented monsters, but this set has a new class --
objects. The Deathcap mushroom follows the Living Flaming Sphere and
Animated Statue as miniatures that have an increased usefulness in the
roleplaying game. There are a lot of options -- general dungeon
dressing is the most immediate use. These could represent doomspores, a
hazard found on page 88 of the Dungeon Master's Guide. While
out of the scope for this preview article, I can imagine these
deathcaps being used after a failed skill challenge in a dungeon where
the PCs tried to bypass a growth of shriekers. For the miniatures battle game, the Deathcap changes the
battlefield. Instead of moving around like a creature, the immobile
Deathcap is placed in a victory area. There, it affects the creatures
around it, either granting additional victory points or additional
poison damage, depending on whether it is in your victory area or your
opponent's. I'm looking forward to reading the response to this creature. I see
it as a figure you're either going to love or hate. There are three or
four figures in this set that could easily be used in the RPG as things
other than monsters, but only this one is explicitly defined as an
object in the miniatures battle game. Next week … more minis!

| Meh for the dragon. I don't even agree with the "..miniature is fantastic..." part in the preview. You can clearly see how the neck was attached to the body - the scales are completely out of line. Not sure what to think of the mushroom. I'd prefer them to release a non-random objects pack with chairs, cupboards, tables, doors and ... well mushrooms, I guess. Still a great set so far. | | Champion of Regis | |

This can be a great repaint. I love this as much as the ochre jelly. | Great Preview.Â
The dragon looks a little week on HP, but otherwise not too bad. Of course hes in Wild where there are some other very nice pieces. And Champ 3 is very solid.Â
The Shroom - very nice. Once EB is gone, theme WB (ie Drow) will definately become popular with this fella.Â
So far Demonwed is looking very solid.Â

Dragon - Who cares?
this preview hilariously points out just how out of touch Wizards is sometimes with knowing the actual desires of its most die-hard fans. Everyone in this thread couldn't care less about the dragon, but is excited by the immobile mushroom. About freakin time they started making things aside from dragons and human fighters | | | |

The Mushrooms are gonna end up being like the Stirges, uncommon and everyone wants a ton of 'em. Hopefully I'll pull eight and won't have to fight. XD
I'll take a barmaid or six... Since an adventurer's mainstay is the tavern, wenches are a necessity in any gaming session! I seriously doubt the shrooms will be anything like the (original) stirge in difficulty to get or price. Reasons: 1--The stirge was an uncommon in WotDQ, which means due to the way they slotted C/U/R/etc in that set, they were as unlikely to find as a rare in a regular set. There were only 2 uncommons per booster and the sheer number of different uncommons make it so that they were much less common than a typical uncommon.
2--People wanted like 16-24 stirges usually.
I don't think the mushroom will be that popular. A lot of RPGers wanting maybe 6-12. So it will likely be a typical uncommon or a lot closer to it.
As an example with the WotDQ stirge:Â I bought 5 cases and I think I got 2 out of the five cases.

| I agree with Corim. It's been 2 years since WotDQ and without purchasing any single ones I have a whopping 4 Stirges from that set. The only reason I have that many is most kids will gladly trade away the silly looking flying mosquito for something "cool" looking.
With the Mushroom and Stirge from this set you'll be looking at an avg of 2 per case, a more precise avg of 3 per two cases.Â
This stems from personal experience. During Dread I opened two cases and pulled 8 of each common, and 3 of each uncommon (except 2, one of which I had two, another 4). Usually you will not pull a duplicate of any rares out of a sealed case.Â
I see myself trading for stirges and mushrooms with this new set at a higher degree of success as each are more likely to be pulled and none of my munchkins will really want the things. Still going to be a bitch though...they always want the best minis in the set...*L*
My input..
And yeah...I'll take an ounce of shrooms...hopefully they're light.

The Iron Dragon Prowler is beautiful in this picture, and I hope that the production version is just as nice. It would be good if a creature this nice was given playable skirmish stats.

and the IDP is very skirmish viable. Charging into Flank at +20 for 40dmg in Wild (warsinger) is pretty monster. Champ 3 and very good champ powers. This piece is serious.
