| | Always sad to hear about people losing jobs. With the fallout over Gleemax, some premier game lines going away and the dropped OGL there had to be some changes at the company. WotC has made some questionable choices in the past 2 years and now its time to clean up after themselves. Hopefully they are keeping the good decision makers and not the bad ones. So far the two announced as confirmed (Gamer Zero and Lurking Lidda) doesn't give me any faith in that. | | Looking for someone to cosponser a midwest DDM event. let me know if your interested! | Like said above it is sad to hear people losing their jobs its a tough time, I have been there. Not familar with Gamer Zero but sorry to hear Lurking Lidda that makes me wonder about their decissions also. I agree they have made some very odd choices over the last 2 years. I'm not blaming 4e or anything like that , its just feels that they are not dedicated to their main fanbase and so pumped to get new players. You don't shoot your best milking cow. I think that was a very distasteful display of gamer politics at GenCon this year. I can't think of a bigger waste of a person's memory than to use them because you don't like a new game. | | | |

| Hi Everyone,
It is always sad to hear of layoffs. I can't help but wonder if it is just a Hasbro corporate belt tightening. Big companies in recessions tend to do this. Department heads are told reduce staff by 10% or some amount and decisions are forced.
If it was Gleemax or something more specific, I can't help but wonder what's behind it.

My opinion can be summed up by the following quote taken from that article.

| Yeah it is a bummer.I hope its not a damn popularity contest over there. But these are a sign of the times, and if wizards finally decides to stop investing money in pantloads like Maple Story and Dreamblade, maybe we'll end up with a more consistent, better researched, DDM. Or theyll just pull the rug out and make it all digital. That thought makes me want to puke with rage. | | | |

Ain't that the truth! Sad part is I knew Dreamblade would fail. All the marketing background and education in the world didn't help that turd.

| Layoffs always suck, I have been through two of them, but they can be good for the company. Hopefully they come through this stronger then before and can make something good of it.

| I was talking with the guy at my FLGS, he says they used to order 400 cases whenever a new set came out and they would sell out! With the last few sets they ordered only 60 cases and had trouble selling them. DDM seems to be in trouble. This is probably what the layoffs are all about. On the positive side 4th Ed. RPG is selling great.

I keep reading the 400 case thing and pondering it and coming up with 'not a chance in the world as we know it'..UNLESS they are including internet sales. I mean, let's pretend a store has 200 DDM/D&D players (that's a pretty high number, but hey, why not ) That would still require them to buy 2 cases EACH to hit those kind of numbers.
Of course, mebbe Canadians are mini-crazy, who knows  ;-)
On the local front, DDM sales are steady (or actually up a bit).
4th ed is selling quite nicely, which makes me happy..hehe. | | Gryfalia's Aerie Bloomington/Normal's only dedicated Game Store! www.gryfaliasaerie.com forums.gryfaliasaerie.com | |

Hi CD,
Maybe it will grow on me, but I am feeling this way too. They moved too far away from the traditional fantasy elements that come from old lore or the early 1.0 game. I know they were trying to be different; but different for the sake of different is not always a good thing. I am still having problems with the Tiefling as a core race. I wouldn't have a problem if the Tiefling was allowed as a player character in special circumstances, just not core, and the same with the Dragonborns.
On a positive note, the game mechanics are more stream-lined. Making the game simpler to play is not a bad thing as long as depth of play is not sacrificed. It looks like they may have achieved this.

| My only complaint is that it is very restrictive (or will be soon) without the crap ton of suppliments that they will put out. there are a ton of powers in the PHB for each class but a few are obviously superior in most circumstances...
