| More dragons. Looks like WotC is making up for the less than great skirmish dragons (or lack of dragons minis period) in past sets.
I wonder if there's gonna be a mind flayer in that set too. I'm not so sure mind flayers are in the starter sets only know seeing as we got a lich this set. Unless this was supposed to be a starter set, but it was delayed as such to the 15th set. | | Disipline is the only way to overcome chaos. | The starter set contains a Large Green Dragon, Human Sellsword, Elf
Warlock, Dwarf Battlemaster, and Exiled Drow Fighter. The rules have
been updated for faster play in an easy-to-reference format. The
starter is in a clear blister package. No theme is given for this set,
other than it will include some figures drawn from key 2008 D&D
titles. The catalog contains no pictures for the D&D minis, not
even cover art. | | Merric Blackman

| I have mixed feelings about this.... not very keen on a large green dragon being in a non random booster if it is really the same green dragon from WOTDQ. | Man! Only 5 figures, and one of then is the Large Green Dragon?? Is this Dragon is the same of WotDQ? It has another pose? Same stats or something else?
just two batlemaps or 2 side battlemaps?

I don't see this as being a big difference as the previous ones.

| I, like most people, will be hoping that the LGD at least has a different pose to the WotDQ one.  Personally I am a little surprised by the choice of a Green Dragon. I understand that they wouldn't do Black as that came out in Unhallowed.  White came out in Night Below. That leaves Green, Red and Blue. Blue is in the Basic boxed set which may have ruled that out. Out of Green and Red I would have picked Red every time.  Maybe they didn't want to piss off either people that had collected since the beginning or those people that had paid $30+ to buy a LRD?

| New starter = good Non-random = questionable New rules = questionable (hopefully good, maybe line templates?) Release date = weird
Maybe Dungeons of Dread will come out in March, like usual, and then the blister starter will come out in April? I hope a WotC insider hops on this thread.

| You are correct jacksonm, there was a LRD in Blood War. However, it doesn't count in my (and probably only my) opinion. For RPG purposes, people want dragons that don't have creatures mounted on their back (or at least I do).
I remember using the Huge Black Dragon from the WotDQ in a session once. The first question the players asked was who the person on the back of the Dragon was. The second question was why was he there!
In any case, a Red Dragon is just iconic. Why not go for the iconic? You will get more non-skirmish people buying the starter set just so they can get a Large Red Dragon. Out of them, some people are sure to give the skirmish game that comes with the set a try.

Olaf the Stout Yes, I agree on the red dragons being more desirable in general. Good point about non-skirmishers maybe giving the game a try. | | | Over 290 successful online DDM trades.

| Will have to see if the starter is worth it, 5 minis, cards, rules & 2 battle grids (is that opposed to battle maps?)
I also thought it was weird that the date is April 8th instead of March, typo or something to do with the release schedule?
It dungeon of dread a specific older module like Desert of Desolation?

| Interesting stuff. A little soon for another large green, but nice nonetheless. The Large Greens from DQ are a bit above my price bracket. Large Blacks much more so, but it's way too soon for a LBD reissue/resculpt. Two DoD sets (desert of desolation and dungeons of dread)? Shoe just wants to confuse everyone | | Knight Warlord a.k.a. | A large green dragon so soon? That's weird... I'd much rather see an unmounted large red (the large green is my least favourite chromatic). Mounted dragons don't count for me either. I'd also like to see a huge black with nothing on it at some point.

| I think the Green Dragon is just another example of Wizards trying to get more money (Like bringing out 4th edition). As it has been said, people really wanted them. jacksonm is right, they did release a red dragon in blood war. It didn't fair as well as the Large Green in sales (I'm pretty sure). Wizards must have seen that. Along with the fact that people payed good money to get them, they re-released it. Just like the Drow Outpost map. | | Disipline is the only way to overcome chaos. | It's pretty simple that they aren't going to put a LRD in a nonrandom pack as it's a highly collectable figure. Marketing would want it in the boosters in order to drive the sales for it. I'll be surprised if they ever put a beholder or something that is also high wanted in a fixed box. I'm kinda surprised they are doing a dragon. I can't say I like the 5 figures in the set though for the same price. now if it was a hugh green dragon, that would take some of the sting away from it. | | Hello Boys, I'm Back Vindicated Champion of the Bat (not pretty, but it still counts) | |

| So it sounds to me like they're changing the starter packs to suit one player as opposed to 2...unless 1 person gets the dragon and the other player gets the rest...or is the aim that each player needs their own starter pack? | | Shottglazz "Take my love, take my land, take me where I cannot stand; I don't care, I'm still free, you can't take the sky from me."
